Components as coalgebras: The refinement dimension
This paper characterizes refinement of state-based software components modeled as pointed coalgebras for some Set endofunctors. The proposed characterization is parametric on a specification of the underlying behaviour model introduced as a strong monad. This provides a basis to reason about (and transform) state-based software designs. In particular it is shown how refinement can be applied to...
متن کاملA Coalgebraic Semantic Framework for Component-based Development in UML
This paper introduces a generic semantic framework for component-based development, expressed in the unified modelling language UML. The principles of a coalgebraic semantics for class, object and statechart diagrams as well as for use cases, are developed. It is also discussed how to formalize the refinement steps in the development process based upon a suitable notion of behavior refinement. ...
متن کاملProgramming with Aspectual Components
Aspect-oriented programming (AOP) controls tangling of concerns by isolating aspects that cross-cut each other into building blocks. Component-based programming (CBP) supports software development by isolating reusable building blocks that can be assembled and connected in many different ways. We show how AOP and CBP can be integrated by introducing a new component construct for programming cla...
متن کاملA Perspective on Component Refinement
This paper provides an overview of an approach to coalgebraic modelling and refinement of state-based software components, summing up some basic results and introducing a discussion on the interplay between behavioural and classical data refinement. The approach builds on coalgebra theory as a suitable tool to capture observational semantics and to base an abstract characterisation of possible ...
متن کاملA Calculus for Generic, QoS-Aware Component Composition
Software QoS properties, such as response time, availability, bandwidth requirement, memory usage, among many others, play a major role in the processes of selecting and composing software components. This paper extends a component calculus to deal, in an effective way, with them. The calculus models components as generalised Mealy machines, i.e., state-based entities interacting along their li...
